  New Orleans

But modern architecture has a much longe tradition in  Rotterdam. Long before the Second World War ground breaking designs for residential office and public buildings had been built. After the devastation of the war a unique opportunity was seized by urban planners and architects to realise their new and progressive ideas.  Your guide will lead you along sky scrapers, residential buildings, offices and public buildings that have become characteristic for the city and its skyline.

You will get the background and characteristics of the various styles and buildings. In addition to Dutch architects like Kees Christiaanse, Francien Houben, Neutelings en Riedijk, Felix Kaan, Jo Coenen, Ben van Berkel, Diederik Dam en Winy Maas (MVRDV) international celebrities have also left their mark, like the Rotterdam born  Rem Koolhaas, Britain's Brian Foster and William Alsop, Italy's Renzo Piano, German Helmut Jahn and Portugal's Alvaro Siza. This way you get an overview of Rotterdam's, Dutch and international architecture.
